16 1 Supply Chain Management and Advanced Planning Systems Background processing is done by specifically configured ABAPTM programs. 0 it is possible to perform a BOM explosion by setting a check mark in the location and network heuristics, which allows planning the components of the final product at the according locations. Since the network heuristics in combination with this mark offers the same function as the multi-level heuristics in interactive planning, multilevel heuristics are not offered in background processing.
A partially satisfied demand will be considered fulfilled. As a result of CTM planning the user receives the assignment of sources and scheduling of demands as well as the appropriate secondary demands within a mid-term demand and distribution plan which also considers partial shipments. From the rules-based approach just described CTM derives its “locality”: it works one demand at a time fixing all orders originating from demands already processed until the end of the planning run. Co-production from fulfilling “earlier” demands are of course available further down in the list of demands.
Following the principals of classical mechanics the key idea was to reduce all phenomena to the movement of small particles. Nowadays, in physics and other mathematical sciences one will talk about models if • one, for reasons of simplifications, restricts oneself to certain aspects of the problem (example: if we consider the movement of the planets, in a first approximation the planets are treated as point masses), • one, for reasons of didactic presentation, develops a simplified picture for the more complicated reality (example: the planetary model is used to explain the situation inside the atoms), • one uses the properties in one area to study the situation in an analogue problem.
