For the faithful, kutafuta (seeking) is a way of life. ”16 Cleage believed that no amount of rational knowledge about the nature and dynamics of the world system is sufficient to effectively change it. A truly effective agent of divine will has to experience the energy and power of God before he/she was capable of total commitment to God, which he regarded as the requirement for membership in the Transforming Community. Cleage’s idea of a church dedicated to personal and social transformation required people who embodied that transformation, people who were incarnations of a God experience.
