The connection between HIV/AIDS and the economy is elusive, but the potential negative impact of the epidemic is indisputable. By undermining the health and economic future of individuals, the HIV/AIDS epidemic becomes a potential threat to human security in general. A Threat to Human Security The concept of human security has evolved from the traditional concept of national security. It recognises that, in an interdependent world, the greatest threat to security does not come from the military might of other states, but from diseases, hunger, environmental contamination and crime, affecting individuals and communities.
